DURALCAN

DURALCAN composites are a series of ceramic particle-reinforced aluminium materials that are well suited for high pressure die castings. The mechanical properties of ASTM test specimens made from these extraordinary materials exceed those of most aluminium, magnesium, zinc and bronze specimens whether they are made by high pressure die casting or by gravity casting.

The most useful features of DURALCAN composites are their high strength, stiffness, wear resistance, thermal conductivity, their improved elevated temperature tensile and fatigue strengths and their low density and coefficient of thermal expansion. This unique spectrum of properties creates exciting new opportunities for die casters.

The Advantages of DURALCAN

High Strength and Stiffness

DURALCAN high pressure die castings exhibit high ultimate strength, yield strength and elastic modulus.

This is due to the reinforcement of the aluminium matrix with up to 20% silicon carbide(SiC) particles.

Some of the problems with weight constraints that plague designers and developers may be solved with DURALCAN composites. Because of their exceptional strength and stiffness, they might replace heavier materials, such as iron, steel and bronze, where un-reinforced aluminium could not.

The fatigue strength of the DURALCAN die casting composites is also greatly improved over those of un-reinforced aluminium die casting alloys such as A380, and A390. The fatigue strength is also over the gravity casting alloy A356. Further more it is comparable to those of aluminium forging alloys such as 2014 and 6061.
